This one is pretty much a forgone conclusion, as McDonald is subbing out the seniors to get their standing ovations and cheers of “thank you seniors” are ringing out. Maresca got his first double-digit rebound game as a Topper, with four points and 10 rebounds.
Finally, WKU is getting consistent FT shooting. They are 23-28 on the game, when they had been 69.1 percent for the season. Not bad, but their free-throw shooting is helping this game stay in their hands late.
This isn’t the way a home career should end, but Mike Walker gets tech’ed up for a slight altercation with Carlos Monroe. Though the game is in hand late, it’s not the best way to go out. Nick Gagel makes 1 of 2 FTs for the Owls. Monroe makes both his FTs as well.
An update, Evans has yet to play, and I doubt we see him because the game is pretty much over.
Sergio Kerusch has been lighting it up lately. He is currently one point away from his third double-double in a row. He has nine points and 10 rebounds.
Credit flat-out effort to WKU keeping the lead. In the final possession for WKU before the media timeout, they collected three offensive rebounds on one possession before Pettigrew got fouled going up. The FAU press seems to be working more and keeping the Toppers from getting into transition, which was big for them in the first half. They have zero fast break points this half.
Okay, so the starters came off the bench, so the official “bench” number is 27-8 WKU, but looking at the normal reserves, they are showing up this game. They have combined for 19 points and are really making it difficult for FAU to get a break. The Owls also have their own bench troubles, with only four players coming off the bench.
Kerusch goes to the line, after being brought down hard by Shavar Richardson, resulting in an intentional foul. He makes both, making it 65-48 with 10:05 left in the 2nd half.
