Just when it seemed spring ball was becoming routine, the final week is beginning.
Insidehilltoppersports.com posted Western’s 2010 spring game roster Sunday, setting the stage for coach Willie Taggart’s first game week as head coach. No independent media were invited to the Spring Game draft, which was hammered out after Saturday’s scrimmage.
Here are some highlights, per Insidehilltoppersports.com:
Head Coach: Clint Bowen
QB: Tyler Bruce
RB: Keshawn Simpson
TE: Jack Doyle
TE: Tristan Jones
DE: Jared Clendenin
LB: Thomas Majors
K: Casey Tinius
Head Coach: Mike Sanford
QB: Matt Pelesasa
QB: Kawaun Jakes
RB: Bobby Rainey
RB: Braxston Miller
S: Mark Santoro
K: Monte Merrick/Hendrix Brakefield
Jakes continued to sit out at last Saturday’s scrimmage. Taggart hasn’t yet said whether he expects Jakes to participate in the Spring Game after injuring his ankle playing pickup basketball.
Walter Wells will play the role of offensive coordinator for the Red team, joining defensive coordinator Eric Mathies. A.J. Pratt will run the White team’s offense, with Clayton White calling defensive signals.
On paper, it’s hard not to give the White team a the edge with the Toppers’ top quarterbacks, running backs and offensive lineman all on one side. But the Red team earns a defensive advantage by attaining Western’s top defensive lineman in Clendenin and linebacker with Majors.
