BASEBALL: WKU posts top-20 ranking

The Toppers’ strong start is finally showing in the rankings.

After winning all four of its games last week, Western moved up to No. 18 in the BaseballAmerica.com poll, announced Monday. It is the highest the Toppers have been ranked in any poll this season and the highest any Western athletic program has been ranked since the women’s basketball team finished the 1997-1998 season ranked No. 15 in the Associated Press Top 25.

Western also went from unranked to No. 21 in the Collegiate Baseball Poll, entered the Rivals.com poll at No. 25 and is 25th in both the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) poll and the USA Today/ESPN coaches poll

It marks the first time Western has been ranked in all five polls in the same week.

The Toppers travel to Lexington to face the struggling Kentucky Wildcats, losers of three straight games, on Wednesday night.
