Once Troy was named the No. 7 seed in the National Invitational Tournament bracket, Western sealed its postseason fate.
And that’s a postseason that’s nonexistent.
School officials told the Herald after the Toppers’ loss to Troy in the semifinals of last week’s Sun Belt Conference Tournament that Western won’t accept a postseason bid to any tournament but the NCAA or NIT. After not hearing their name called Sunday night, Head Coach Ken McDonald and company now officially begin working for next season.
Troy took the Sun Belt’s automatic bid to the NIT for winning the Sun Belt’s regular-season crown. North Texas took the league’s auto bid to the NCAA Tournament, earning a No. 15 seed in the West Region.
