A Western official confirmed to the Herald Thursday that the university will introduce a new Athletics Director at 10 a.m. Friday in the Topper Club at Houchens-Smith Stadium.
The Herald reported Wednesday that Ross Bjork, Senior Athletic Director for External Affairs at UCLA, was in talks with Western about the spot. An official confirmed Thursday that those talks were almost finalized, making Bjork the successor to outgoing Athletics Director Wood Selig.
Two other candidates interviewed for the job at last weekend’s Sun Belt Conference Tournament in Hot Springs, Ark., including Chris Wyrick of the University of Arkansas. Sources came away from the interviews saying Bjork was the most impressive of the bunch.
Bjork, a former coordinator of the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation, is in his fifth year at UCLA.
