A source close to the situation told the Herald Wednesday that Western and Ross Bjork, Senior Athletic Director for External Affairs at UCLA, have entered conversations to make Bjork the university’s next athletic director.
The source said that if Bjork accepts the deal, he is expected to be introduced as soon as Friday.
Sources told the Herald last Friday that three candidates, including Bjork, would be interviewed in Hot Springs, Ark., throughout the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Western came away impressed with Bjork’s interview, according to a source, and has decided to pursue him further.
The Herald also reported that Chris Wyrick, Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs at Arkansas, was a part of three interviews conducted.
Bjork worked as an assistant coordinator of the Hilltopper Athletic Foundation before arriving at Missouri in 1997. He has also worked within the Miami (Fla.) athletic department, usually in the role of fundraising, and is a former president of the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD).
Bjork is in his fifth year at UCLA.
