Four games in Sun Belt Tournament won’t bother Toppers

Will Western earn a No. 3 or No. 4 seed in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament?

Those numbers aren’t yet finalized, determining whether the Toppers will have to win three or four games to earn a third straight NCAA berth.

Whichever way things end up, coach Ken McDonald said Western doesn’t care — that the Toppers need to desire playing an extra 40 minutes.

“I think when you get to tournament play, you’ve got to act like and you’ve got to know,” McDonald said. “You’ve got to want to play all night long. You’ve got to want to play all day, all night, and just keep on playing. That’s the way it is.

“If we have to play an extra 40 minutes, we’re not going to downplay it. We’re not going to act like it’s all doom and gloom. It’s just a chance to play an extra game, and that’s the way we’re going at it.”

The Toppers have two chances left to make ground directly on the No. 3 spot, when they travel to play Arkansas State and Florida Atlantic.
