People know the Western Kentucky name and what it means when it comes to basketball.
This has happened before, like after Middle Tennessee knocked off the Toppers in Diddle Arena on Jan. 23.
Then, MTSU coach Kermit Davis praised the Western program. Tuesday night, Houston’s Tom Penders did the same.
“First of all, it’s been a great two-year series with Western,” Penders said. “I have tremendous respect for this program. They were a well-established program when I was a young guy and a high school player and a student-athlete, and I could actually pick up the games on radio from Connecticut where I was.
“Then they had Clem Haskins and later on Jim McDaniels, and I’m glad my team finally had a chance to be here and I had the opportunity to be here for a game. It’s a great environment.”
A 13-12 record aside, it seems Western still has a target on its back.
