ESPN: Crennel to coach Chiefs’ defense

ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter is reporting Wednesday morning that former Western lineman and NFL coach Romeo Crennel will take over as defensive coordinator for the Kansas City Chiefs.

Crennel, who coached the Cleveland Browns for four seasons, is slated to coach in the East-West college all-star game on Jan. 23. After the game, Schefter reports that Crennel will begin his work in Kansas City.

Crennel was introducted into Western’s Hall of Distinguished alumni this fall and, according to Athletics Director Wood Selig, played a part in filling the head coaching vacancy left by David Elson’s firing in November.
