Basketball Head Coach Ken McDonald said Monday that he’s ready to reach out to football Head Coach Willie Taggart about bringing freshman offensive lineman Ed Hazelett to the Toppers’ hoops team.
McDonald said he discussed Hazelett with the basketball coaching staff at lunch and could call Taggart about the move as soon as Monday.
“We would definitely entertain having him out and trying to see if he can jump into the system and help us,” McDonald said. “I’m not sure if he’s excited about doing that or not, and I’m not sure about coach Taggart — that’s in his plan, so that’s going to be his call.”
With a coaching swap in the works for the football team, McDonald said he waited until the end of the season to contact Hazelett.
Hazelett, a graduate of Indiana’s Warren Central High School, was rated the No. 49 center in Scout.com’s 2009 class. Former Head Coach David Elson swapped Hazelett out from tight end in the middle of last season, moving the 6-7, 278-pound freshman to the offensive line.
