Despite only trailing by nine with 12 minutes to play, the Toppers were unable to stifle South Florida’s fourth-quarter offense and lost 35-13 in Saturday’s home opener.
Head coach David Elson said he “definitely saw progress from week one to week two”.
Elson stressed the team’s lack of physicality after last week’s 63-7 loss to Tennessee, but he said aggressive play may have doomed them against the Bulls.
The Toppers were called for 13 penalties, including 10 in the first half, for a total of 124 yards.
